To kick off the V8 Supercars season, we’ve put together some quick facts about this weekend’s race:
- The Clipsal 500 Adelaide is in its eighteenth year and the 13th time the event has kicked off the V8 Supercars Championship season.
- Expected to attract more than 1.5 million television viewers and 250,000 trackside spectators.
- Craig Lowndes will be honoured this weekend as he breaks the record for the most number of rounds by a V8 Supercar driver.
- James Courtney is looking to become the first driver to win the Clipsal 500 Adelaide three years in a row.
- More than half of the drivers are in new teams or cars this year and the grid has expanded to 26 cars.
- No race at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide has ever finished with a 100 percent finish rate. The track always claims at least one car.
- There are three rookies beginning their V8 Supercars careers this year: Cameron Waters, Chris Pither and Aaren Russell.
